Underpromise and Overdeliver

2 Weeks be damned.

How about 2 hours!!!

Had a fit of inspiration after I posted the previous post and I thought I’d try something a little unorthodox and fuck me drunk it worked for a change. Seems things might actually be on the improve.

I’ve now changed over the DNS and it should start propagating about the place. The time it will take will vary but everything SEEMS to be working OK.

Fingers crossed.

So the forums and tracker can be found at the usual addresses starting now. YMMV.

Trials and Tribulations — But TYT still lives!!!

Well hello to all of you who made it here.

First off my apologies for the extended downtime. You know what they say about the best laid plans of mice and men. Alas it seems my plans were neither best laid nor very successful and this brings us here.

And where is here.

Here is a temporary state of limbo where the site is neither up nor down ;)

First off the good news. the site will return in it’s full glory, make no mistake about that TYT isn’t going anywhere and we’ll be back bigger and better than ever for this coming season which should be a great one.

But we’re not there yet. Where we’re at at the moment is we have two servers that are up and running,  Lombardi and Heisman. One, lombardi, will be operating the “old forums and tracker” and the other, heisman, will end up with the new system once it’s completed to a usable state.

The migration that I’ve been talking about and that got “stuck” partway done is the migration from the “old” server we were using to lombardi. The old server is gone and has been decommisioned, all the data is saved etc and the hold up was the configuring and re-importing of the old data onto lombardi.

I’d planned to do the migration before we moved, but this initially got put back/on hold when everyone got sick. Finally we got better and the migration began. As always things didn’t got 100% as planned and the “quick and simple” migration method didn’t work and had to be replaced by a slower (painfully slow in fact) but far more reliable method.

The problem then became like an episode of “24″ with a clock counting down the hours to me having to move and another slowly counting down the data still needing to be migrated. Alas I’m not Jack Bauer and I didn’t make it, so LA got nuked. Doesn’t really matter they don’t have a football team anyway ;)

Then there’s a tale of woe and catastrophic clusterfucks that doesn’t need to be told here but included things like all our belongings arriving at our new house the day AFTER we did. And the removalists trying to charge us TWICE as much as they quoted. Add this into to all manner of other pain in the arse things associated with moving and renting and it was a week and a half I’d rather not relive again any time soon.

So now almost $10,000 later, we’re moved. The new place is adequate but the area is great. The financial and emotional drain of the last couple of weeks has been massive and even though we’ve moved in we’re still recovering from both (and sadly there’s still a few things not entirely resolved). This has meant that even simple things such as setting up phone lines and internet connections have had to be put on hold until we stop haemorrhaging money and things settle down. As such our internet activity is VERY VERY limited, hence the time it’s taken for me to let everyone know what’s going on.  I’m currently operating on a borrowed 3G wireless connection with a pitiful data allowance that I’m almost sure I’ve already annihilated.

At this stage I reckon it’ll be a week or so (possibly more) before normal services resume (my goal date at the moment is the 1st June). I’m going to try and use my time wisely to speed up things when I do get my connection back to normal.  If all goes well I might even find some time I would normally waste on the interwebs to work on the new TYT

So that’s where we’re at.

Thanks to everyone for all their words of support and and encourgement and it’s nice to see people so keen to see the site back. To those who have bitched and moaned and whinged about the lack of the free service they think they are entitled to, just fuck off, I’m not in mood. Although I am pleased to say they have been very much in the minority.

Also please feel free to spread the word let people know what’s happening, post on other forums people might be hanging around on etc (assuming it’s within the rules) and help let ppl know what happening and when we’ll be back. Direct people either here or to the twitter feed http://twitter.com/tenyardtorrents for more up to date info about what’s happening and if you have any questions feel free to ask them below.

Thanks for your patience and support guys.

Extended Downtime

Hey guys. Sorry about the extended down time.

Just a combination of really fucking poor timing and a couple of configuration issues.

I’m battling through both.  Feeling back to my usual grumpy self now after a bout of gastro that had me, along with most of the family,  in hospital for a bit, so that’s all good. Now I’m just putting up with packing an entire house of 4 people into lots and lots of boxes before Monday morning! so we can move to a new house about 500klms (300 miles) away.

The forums and the trackers have been configured correctly (I hope!) finally and the old data from the forums is now uploading (unfortunately a lot slower than I’d hoped, but it’s getting there) the tracker data is next fortunately it’s about half the size of the forum data.

Updates on the upload progression will appear on the twitter feed at http://twitter.com/tenyardtorrents.com or alternately in the sidebar to the right once I refresh the config.

Thanks for your patience guys.

Dan.
